The Oregon Trail served notice that a new writer, at home on the frontier as well as in staid, provincial Boston, had appeared. Paul Kane (September 3, – Febru ) was an Irish-born Canadian painter, famous for his paintings of First Nations peoples in the Canadian West and other Native Americans in the Columbia District.
